This Jack would never end up a huge head in a jar with a message for the 10th Traveler/Doctor. Across broken glass, the immortal dragged himself. Shards tore at his clothes and his skin - leaving trails of fabric and blood in his wake. The former captain was not so immortal anymore.
Yet he continued to pull himself further over the glass, thorns, rubble. But each pull was getting weaker. Jack dug his fingers into the earth and white-knuckled a hold.
Then a shadow passed over him. He hadn't even heard the shadow's caster arrive. But he had seen a blue light in the distance.
"Oh, Jack," a voice sighed sadly.
Jack struggled to lift his head to see who was there. His blue eyes were faded, bloodshot and ugly. The immortal's face were streaked with scratches and blood. And he tried to smile as he saw the man who now crouched down beside him. The Traveler/Doctor.
"Tra...vel...er," Jack rasped, hope and happiness flowing off of him like the dim light that was his 'wrongness'.
"Jack," the Traveler spoke as he sat crouched beside Jack...
